The premiere date for out actor Billy Eichner's upcoming gay rom-com "Bros" has been pushed back six weeks, from its initially announced Aug. 12 opening to Sept. 30, according to Deadline.

The swapped opening date follows an earlier COVID-related delay in the production of "Bros," which is touted as the first gay rom-com from a major studio. Comedy hit maker Judd Apatow is producing, SlashFilm reported.

"The only thing really out there about the movie right now is that it's about two guys with commitment issues who give a relationship a try anyway," SlashFilm detailed. "Yeah, a tried and true rom-com formula, but not one explored as thoroughly as heterosexual couples have gotten to do in this genre."

Co-stars include a roster of out talent, including Luke Macfarlane, Bowen Yang, Amanda Bearse, "Torch Song Trilogy" playwright and actor Harvey Fierstein, among a host of others.

Eichner underscored this with a Twitter post in September, in which he enthused, "I could not possibly be more excited to tell you the ENTIRE main cast for my rom com BROS will be ALL openly LGBTQ+ actors!!! Yes, even in all the straight roles!"

"This is a first for a major studio film," Eichner added.

Eichner returned to Twitter to share the news of the date change, and reiterate his excitement.

With the next "Mission: Impossible" movie being pushed back to July of 2023 — the reason for the shift in the "Bros" opening date — the gay rom-com will be the only major movie anticipated to be hitting screens on the weekend of Sept. 30, reports said.
