"Individuals who remain loyal to the same coffee on a daily basis tend to use that very ritual as an anchor in order to maintain anxiety levels, much like a daily reminder of predictability prior to going into stressful situations," explains Kaila Hattis, founder and licensed marriage and family therapist at Pacific Coast Therapy.

On the flip side, clients who experiment with flavors, sizes or even switching between hot and iced drinks tend to show "more elastic emotional responses and feel more comfortable with change," Hattis adds. These seemingly small choices reflect bigger patterns in how people cope with transitions, avoid discomfort or seek stability.

In addition, clinical psychologist Dr. Ramani Durvasula surveyed a thousand people to see if their daily coffee order could reveal something deeper about their personality. Participants were tested on traits like extroversion, perfectionism and warmth, then asked to share their go-to drink.

The results, which she published in her book " You Are WHY You Eat," showed some curious overlaps between coffee habits and personality types. But before you start psychoanalyzing your cup of joe, Durvasula reminds us: "We are no more defined by our coffee orders than we are by our astrological signs."
