Ptown Film Fest Honors Cynthia Nixon With Excellence in Acting Award

The Provincetown International Film Festival (PIFF) will honor Emmy, Tony and Grammy Award-winner Cynthia Nixon with the 2016 Excellence in Acting Award at this year's festival, running June 15 - 19 in Provincetown, MA. Nixon will be on hand to accept the award at a special ceremony on Saturday, June 18 at Provincetown's historic Town Hall.

A tour-de-force actress with a long r�sum� on film, television and stage, Nixon began her career at age 12 in the feature film "Little Darlings" and made her Broadway debut in "The Philadelphia Story" for which she won a Theatre World Award. On television, she received much critical praise and her first Emmy Award in the role of Miranda Hobbes on HBO's hit series "Sex and the City," which also earned her multiple Golden Globe nominations. She went on to co-star in the two wildly successful "Sex and the City" films.

Nixon can currently be seen in Pamela Romanowsky's film "The Adderall Diaries" and later this year will star in Terence Davies' biopic "A Quiet Passion" as reclusive poet Emily Dickinson. Recent projects include Showtime's "The Affair," Comedy Central's "Broad City," Josh Mond's "James White" (Independent Spirit Award nominee, Best Supporting Female), Richard Loncraine's "5 Flights Up," and Nikole Beckwith's "Stockholm, Pennsylvania" (Critics' Choice Television Award nominee, Best Supporting Actress in a Movie or Limited Series).

On stage, Nixon has won a Tony Award ("Rabbit Hole"), earned two Tony nominations ("Indiscretions" and "Wit") and has appeared in 40 plays, 10 of them on Broadway. In Winter 2014, she made her directorial debut at The New Group with Joel Johnson's "Rasheeda Speaking." She recently wrapped directing two New York City plays, including New Group's "Steve," starring Mario Cantone, and "MotherStruck!," starring Staceyann Chin.

She lives in downtown Manhattan with her wife Christine and their children Sam, Charlie and Max.
