Which States have the Largest and the Smallest Penis Sizes?
READ TIME: 7 MIN.
Are things really bigger in Texas? And does Rhode Island deserve the nickname Little Rhody?
Things questions come to mind from a report in the New York Post about a survey that compares penis size by state.
"To gauge phallus length by region, New York City-based proctology firm Bespoke Surgical polled more than 1,300 men across the 50 states about their dimensions when fully erect," reports the Post.
Bespoke, which published the report for the first time last year, writes in their introduction that such survey is a bit removed from their area of expertise. "Here at Bespoke Surgical, we often talk about assholes, anal, and all things bottom (especially bottoming), but right now, we are going to focus on the other delightful part that's just a few inches away. To us, there's no such thing as a bad penis. You can be cut or uncut, have a slant or a curve, be a grower or a shower, be big or small, or even a little of everything in between, there's one thing we can all agree on – every man should be proud of his penis."
Bespoke asked two questions of participants: "We asked two questions: What is your penis length at full erection and what length do you say your penis is at full erection when asked by potential partners, dates, or significant others?" Adding: "Please bear in mind that this is all self-reported data and is based entirely on the responses provided by the subjects of the study."
They continue with expressing the problem over self-reporting penis size, which was largely above the national average found in a 2020 survey from the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy. They concluded "was that the average length of an erect penis is between 5.1 and 5.5 inches," while the self-reported data averaged closer to 6".
There are reasons for this discrepancy, writes Bespoke, "Well, many penis size surveys may suffer from volunteer bias. Volunteer bias, in this case, could mean that men with longer penises might be more willing to volunteer for a length survey than men with shorter penises, which skews the data and makes the average seem longer than may actually be true. Alternatively, most surveys are self-reporting (like ours!) which gives respondents the opportunity to lie about the length of their penis."
From their reporting, Bespoke published these conclusions:
"Overall, what we found is that the average penis length varies significantly by state. The averages come in anywhere from 5.22 inches to a whopping 7.44 inches."
And "(t)he national (self-reported) average penis size in America came in at 6.41 inches at full erection. While there is room for error due to self-reporting, this still does give us an idea of the average penis length in the US men trend towards."
For the results, Bespoke writes: "When it comes to the average penis size by state, the five states with the highest average penis lengths (in inches) were Alabama (7.44), Louisiana (7.15), West Virginia (7.00), Vermont (6.98), and Utah (6.97). Most states fell between 6 – 6.9 inches.
The top-ten states are:
Alabama (7.44)
Louisiana (7.15)
West Virginia (7)
Vermont (6.98)
Utah (6.97)
Oklahoma (6.93)
Alaska (6.92)
Florida (6.85)
South Dakota (6.85)
Maine (6.78)
The five states with the lowest averages (in inches) were Delaware (5.22), New Mexico (5.36), Maryland (5.50), Georgia (5.69), and Rhode Island (5.83). Including those states, only eight states' averages were below 6 inches."
Bespoke also published a map that used clever emojis to indicate penis size.
As for the nagging question of exaggerating their size, Bespoke analyzed the data by state and concludes that there is wide variation.
"Louisiana came in as the state with the biggest average exaggeration (8.07) as well as one of the widest variances of what they tell others with 0.92 inches. Delaware, who had the smallest actual average had an average exaggeration of 1.30 inches.
"Surprisingly, we found was that twelve states had an understated average. Rhode Island respondents, on average, understated their size by 1.17 inches. Four states had the same average and the rest exaggerated their size. Interestingly, we didn't see a pattern or correlation between states and the average penis size by state, though the deep south was guilty of the highest exaggerations. Aside from this, there was a significant variance throughout the country while attempting to answer the question, what is the average penile length in the US?"
