Grey's Anatomy - The Complete Third Season

Christian Cintron READ TIME: 2 MIN.

Two people stabbed by a pole, a woman who seems cured of Alzheimer's disease, a trip to the afterlife, and a spin-off episode in LA. Grey's Anatomy isn't your normal medical drama. It's more like a gripping human drama with a touch of medicine. Each episode shows the struggles of the human condition from love and loss to larger issues like our place on this Earth. The characters do not shy away from anything that's "dark and twisty." This season is marred by adultery, suicidal thoughts, lying and death...not to mention McSteamy.

The gloves are off in the third season, now available on DVD. Christina (Sandra Oh) and Burke (Isaiah Washington) take the next step in their relationship, Addison (Kate Walsh) must decide if she's going to leave Seattle, Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) forces Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) to make a decision about their future.

There are great moments in the season and great new additions to the cast including Sara Ramirez as Callie Torres, Eric Dane as Dr. "McSteamy" Sloan and Elizabeth Reaser as a Jane Doe amnesiac who goes through a great evolution as she receives corrective plastic surgery and a little free therapy from Dr. Karev (Justin Chambers). This season also boasts great guest stars including many of the series most notable deaths in an episode that takes place in the afterlife. Dianne Carol appears as Dr. Burke's mother, Oscar nominee Abigail Breslin as a girl who can feel no pain, and Kate Burton who plays Meredith's mother suffering from Alzheimer's disease.

The DVD set has quite a few features including deleted scenes, a gag reel, extended episodes, audio commentaries by the cast and crew, the star's favorite scenes, and special interviews with Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo, and Elizabeth Reaser. Patrick's "interview" includes an introspective on his great love of car racing. Pompeo and Reaser's interviews explore their acting process, the growth of their characters, and some important moments from the show.

If you're a fan of the show or are just curious as to why the show is such a big success you should check out this major season of the show. The drama hits an apex and is set to get more intense with the new season and new show, Private Practice.
